Anyone who needs assistance from Hearts & Hammers of South Whidbey in 2016 has until the end of the month to submit an application.

The organization’s deadline is Jan. 31. Homeowners who would like to be considered can visit www.heartsandhammers.com or call 221-6063.

This year’s annual work day is May 7.

Hearts & Hammers is a non-profit group that leverages volunteers and community donations to repair or clean up homes for homeowners who either physically or financially can’t do the work themselves. The group’s mission is “neighbor’s helping neighbors,” and since 1984 volunteers have repaired over 500 homes on South Whidbey.

Potential projects for 2016 can include repairs to plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting and plastering, along with weatherization, heavy cleaning, roofing, yard cleanup and trash removal. Priority is given to health and safety concerns and there is no cost to the homeowner due to grants and donations.
