Hearts & Hammers helpers to gather for annual spaghetti dinner

Hearts & Hammers of South Whidbey’s yearly spaghetti dinner and volunteer kick-off is next week.

Hearts & Hammers of South Whidbey’s yearly spaghetti dinner and volunteer kick-off is next week.

The event is 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at the Langley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Meal includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti with regular and gluten-free noodles with sauce, salad and dessert. Costs $5 for adults, $3 for children.

Hearts & Hammers’ mission is to bring needed repairs to homeowners who physically or financially are unable to complete the work alone. There is no cost to the homeowners; materials and labor are provided for with financial gifts, volunteers, and in-kind donations of material from area lumber yards and supply retailers. The organization needs help.

“Consider giving one day of your life, together with hundreds of other volunteers from across the community, to help many South Whidbey neighbors with much needed repairs,” said Baz Stevens, a board member and spokesman for Hearts & Hammers, in a recent news release. “Our work day is one of the largest community efforts to help repair homes for Whidbey’s families, the elderly and the disabled. The experience helps build camaraderie and compassion within our community through giving a helping hand to our neighbors in need.”

The annual spaghetti dinner is the beginning of the volunteer sign-up window. Volunteers can sign up online at www.heartsandhammers.com or at the dinner. Donations can also be made at these venues or mailed to PO Box 694, Langley, WA 98260.
