After a year away from Greenbank Farm, the Highland Games will return this summer to Greenbank Farm, the Whidbey Island Celtic Society has announced.

Last year, a scheduling snafu at Greenbank Farm left the annual celebration of Scottish culture homeless. The event — which features Highland piping, drumming, dancing and traditional Scottish athletics — will be held at Greenbank Farm on Saturday, Aug. 13.

Organizers of the games said volunteers are still needed; contact Jessica Larson at jlarson731@gmail.com to sign up.

The Highland Games were shifted to the grounds at Langley Middle School in 2010 after Greenbank Farm had inadvertently leased its property for a wedding on the same weekend as the games, and the wedding party did not want to share the farm with hundreds of bagpipers, competitors, vendors and visitors. The South Whidbey School District agreed to host the games on its property, with restrictions on the weapons carried by Highland gamers.
