Island County Commissioner Angie Homola will run for re-election.

Homola, a Democrat in the county’s District 2, was first elected in 2008. She declared her candidacy for another term in 2012 in a press announcement early Monday, and she touted the county’s progress during tough economic times.

“The past three years have been productive and rewarding,” Homola said in her announcement.

“Although the county is experiencing the most prolonged financial crisis in history, I am proud to say that the prudent steps taken to balance the budget in the middle of the recession have earned the county a AA bond rating. Measurable progress has been made toward government transparency, job retention and creation, technology upgrades, energy cost savings, departmental consolidation and program efficiencies. I’ve also taken steps to protect our natural assets and to assure water quality and availability thru out the county.”

“If re-elected I will continue to practice responsible government, protect your quality of life, and to plan for tomorrow today, knowing that the decisions I make each day shape our ability to remain solvent, safe, healthy, happy and independent tomorrow,” Homola added.

Homola is the third candidate running for a seat on the Island County Board of Commissioners.

Robert “Jeff” Lauderdale, a Republican, is running for District 1 against incumbent Democrat Helen Price Johnson.

Homola said her website will be at www.angiehomola.com, but the website was still under construction early Monday.
