HOPE starts summer sign-ups

The HOPE therapeutic horseback riding program is now registering for the summer session.

The HOPE therapeutic horseback riding program is now registering for the summer session.

Lessons are available to children, adults and families that may be facing challenging circumstances such as disabilities, illness, crisis, trauma, physical or mental disabilities or injury recovery.

The session begins on Tuesday, July 8 in Langley and Thursday, July 10 and Friday, July 11 in

Oak Harbor.

The HOPE program teaches riders the important aspects of horsemanship while having fun. Lessons include learning how to approach and halter the horse, leading, grooming, tacking and basic riding skills. Each lesson is tailored to individual’s needs, skills and abilities.

Registration will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the Island County Fairgrounds in Langley and from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 in Room 137 at Skagit Valley College in Oak Harbor.

Limited scholarships are available, based on financial need. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is advised.
