Island County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson takes a bow at the Saratoga Chamber Orchestra’s May 6 Gala Concert with musical guests Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas at South Whidbey High School Auditorium.

Saratoga Chamber Orchestra maestro Legh Burns said Johnson is more musical than she thinks. “She did a terrific job and the orchestra loved her,” Burns said.

Johnson conducted the first and third movements of Vivaldi’s “Concerto in G Major” after a few short lessons from Burns and some rehearsals with the orchestra.

She accepted the honor to step in to conduct when an orchestra suppor

ter won the chance to conduct at the SCO’s auction, but decided he didn’t want to step into that limelight. “She kept things going very well,” Burns said.

“They did exactly what she told them to do. I told her this was the launching of a new career for her.”
