“Search and rescue personnel island-wide have been mobilized this week to help in the search for a 12-year-old boy who disappeared at Deception Pass State Park on Wednesday.Jonathan Camancho, from Utah, was reported missing at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when his family called for assistance, said Jan Smith, Island County Sheriff’s spokesperson.Even the Sheriff’s South Whidbey Citizens Patrol headed north to distribute posters describing the boy and carrying a picture of his twin brother.Smith said a continuous air, ground and water search included more than 100 persons from over a dozen agencies, plus civilians, coordinated by Park Ranger Bill Overby. However, by Thursday night the situation was looking bleak as authorities determined the boy may have accidentally fallen down an 80-foot cliff into the cold, rapid waters that flow in the area.Smith said a trinket that may have belonged to the boy was found at the top of the cliff and there were scuff marks and broken earth that suggested someone may have fallen over the edge, directly into the currents below. On Friday morning, Navy divers began an underwater search. As of press time for The South Whidbey Record the fate of the boy was still unknown.Jonathan, his twin brother, a sister and his mother, Patrea, along with a cousin were visiting relatives in Oak Harbor. They arrived at Deception Pass State Park on Wednesday and Jonathan became separated from them. The father, Byron Camancho, a Utah state highway patrolman, arrived at the scene Thursday.Smith said the personal item possibly belonging to Jonathan was found near a trail approximately 40 yards from the visitor parking area south of the bridge. Tracking dogs strongly indicated Jonathan had been present in the area, and may have fallen over a nearby cliff, she said. “
