Emergency responders were plenty busy last month, responding to 180 calls in January.
South Whidbey Fire/EMS Chief Rusty Palmer said the number was 30 calls more than the district’s monthly average in 2013. Most of the calls were medical in nature — people who fell down, were sick, etc. — though a couple of fire calls and a marine rescue kicked off 2013.
For all the business in January, Palmer said February began a bit calmer. He reported a handful of calls over the weekend and noted a major lull during the Super Bowl Sunday, between 3 and 6 p.m.
“We had quite the lull in the afternoon, which was nice,” Palmer said.
