Judge extends no-contact order for man accused of stabbing parents

Island County Superior Court Alan Hancock approved an extension for the no-contact order between a Freeland man and his parents Monday that will last until the man’s trial for stabbing his mother and father is resolved.

Sean Paul DeMerchant, 38, was arraigned on two counts of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon Oct. 24, and entered two pleas of not guilty.

Authorities allege that DeMerchant stabbed his mother and father in their Bush Point Terrace home in early October.

He faces a prison sentence between 21 years, nine months and 27 years, five months if convicted.

DeMerchant’s trial has been set for Dec. 20.
