Kast to resign from South Whidbey parks board

South Whidbey Parks Commissioner Linda Kast said she will resign her board seat in September.

South Whidbey Parks Commissioner Linda Kast will step down from her board seat in September.

Kast announced her impending resignation at Wednesday’s parks board meeting. Parks officials said Kast is moving out of the parks district.

Her resignation will become effective on Sept. 21.

The South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District is looking for people who are interested in applying for the post. The district is accepting applications through 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1.

The new parks commissioner will fill out Kast’s current term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2013. Commissioners will interview candidates for the post after the application period closes and select a replacement.

Applications may be obtained on-line at www.swparks.org or at the district office at 5475 Maxwelton Road, Langley.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live within the South Whidbey park district boundaries, which are the same as the South Whidbey School District.

Parks commissioners serve as unpaid volunteers. They guide the park district and oversee the district director and staff on matters relating to parks, recreation and district finances. The park board meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the district headquarter building on Maxwelton Road.
