KUDOS | Students attend All Northwest Music Festival in Spokane

Five members of the South Whidbey High School band, under direction of Chris Harshman, participated in the All Northwest Music Festival Feb. 15, according to a recent press release.

Five members of the South Whidbey High School band, under direction of Chris Harshman, participated in the All Northwest Music Festival Feb. 15, according to a recent press release.

The festival took place at the Fox Theater in Spokane as part of the Music Educators Regional Conference.

The selected students were Kris Watson, bassoon, Liam Twomey, trombone, Tesla Dussault, trombone, Garrett Poteat, clarinet, and Alec Chinnery, french horn.

The release states that in addition to these students, several other South Whidbey High School band members received superior ratings at the Regional Solo/Emsemble Festival. These students include Amelia Hensler, trumpet, Katyrose Jordan, alto saxophone, Conor Workman, alto saxophone, Caroline Burns, Sydnee Thompson and Sanna Bjork, flute trio and Tesla Dussault and Liam Twomey, trombone duet.

A group of students also qualified as alternates to compete in the State Solo/Ensemble Festival, according to the release. These students are Conor Workman, soprano saxophone, Kris Watson, baritone saxophone, Mara Bush, alto saxophone and Catherine Ballestrasse, tenor saxophone in the woodwinds ensemble category. Collin Burns qualified as an alternate in the brass solo category.

The state competition will be held at Central Washington University at the end of April.
