Langley adopts lean budget for 2010

Langley City Council members voted to approve the 2010 budget at their last city council meeting.

Langley City Council members voted to approve the 2010 budget at their last city council meeting.

The $4.3 million budget provides no salary increases for the city’s 17 employees, and also reduces work hours for several workers and eliminates four contract positions.

“This isn’t a happy sight for me,” said Mayor Paul Samuelson, noting the four employees who were being let go.

“I’m going to tell you that I hope this budget holds,” he said, adding that the city will intensely monitor Langley’s finances in the months ahead.

Samuelson said he hoped the city would not need to make further cuts in early 2010, but added, “We are prepared to do that if we need to.”

“These are difficult times for us, as they are for everybody,” Samuelson said.
