Langley’s interim planning director will continue through February next year.

The council approved a contract extension for Jack Lynch at its Dec. 21 meeting. The contract kicks in Jan. 4, at the next council meeting, and lasts through Feb. 29.

As part of the deal, Lynch will work no more than 30 hours per week at a rate of $65 per hour. As a contractor, he will not receive benefits.

Lynch will have plenty of work ahead of him. Some of the major responsibilities include completing the comprehensive plan update by February, reviewing the city’s food van/truck ordinance after its first year of operation, and handling the daily tasks of reviewing land use permits. The planning director also serves as the staff representative to the city’s planning advisory board, design review board, historic preservation commission, parks and open space commission and the arts commission.
