Langley’s Parks and Open Space Commission will talk about the level of service assessment made by its Parks, Open Space & Trails Assessment Committee at its meeting today.

The parks commission will also talk about the timeline for its 2011 work plan, and what should be delayed until next year.

The meeting is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Langley City Hall.

The level of service assessment is an annual review to see how much progress the city has made in meeting the standards set in the Langley Comprehensive Plan’s section on parks and open space.

Earlier this year, the parks commission decided to finish the parks, open space and trails portion of the assessment first, with the work on the maintenance portion to come in November.

A final report on the assessment is expected to be presented to the city council in January.

Parks commissioners will also look at the progress made on their 2011 work plan at today’s meeting.

This year’s work plan included installing wood chips under the big swing at Generation Park; developing a design for improvements along the Cascade Avenue walkway; designing new sitting areas and adding them to a location at Fourth and Park streets and places on Camano Avenue; working on a plan to develop a trail system and enhancements at the natural area near Langley Middle School; and putting a donation box at one of the parks.

Representatives of the parks commission are expected to brief the city council at its Nov. 7 meeting on their accomplishments, next priorities and key issues.
