Langley is launching its 2010 Water Saver Challenge, and is looking for people to join this summer’s effort to reduce Langley’s energy footprint.

The city of Langley’s single largest electric expense is to pump and treat water. City officials are encouraging its water customers to use less water this summer than last year; customers will see a reduced water bill and the city will save, as well.

Customers can sign-up for the challenge and the city’s public works will analyze how much they have saved this summer compared to last year. People who get a few neighbors to signup together will also be entered into the Neighbor-to-Neighbor category (send one e-mail or have one person signup at the front desk with all the names and addresses). All participants will be recognized, with special recognition for the top three water-saving individuals and Neighbor-to-Neighbor participants. Recognition will be given on the city Web site, at a city council meeting and in the newspaper.

The deadline for registering is Friday, July 9.
