Langley store owner irked with parking

Parking near the stores in Langley remains a problem, one business owner said at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Cynthia Tilkin told the council that a fellow business owner was experiencing persistent parking problems in front of her store.

“Parking in Langley is still a problem,” Tilkin said.

Mayor Fred McCarthy acknowledged the concerns, citing that 13 spots were taken away from the commercial core during the Second Street redesign between Cascade and Anthes avenues.

One of the issues, said Tilkin, was that store employees in Langley park on the street where customers should be given preference.

It was a problem also called out by Councilwoman Rene Neff, who also owns a gallery on First Street.

“There’s tons of employees parking in streets,” she said.

McCarthy said the city wants to avoid paid parking stickers and issuing tickets, but he may be interested in another parking study to determine the best solution, one that he hoped would have “universal buy-in.”
