Local churches announce topics of Sunday services

South End churches have announced the topics of services this Sunday.

Series continues on Hebrews at SWCC

Ron Wedeking will deliver his next sermon on the book of Hebrews tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church.

His sermon topic is “Going On to Perfection,” based on Hebrews Chapter 6.

Wedeking is a former Covenant church pastor, with degrees from Northwest University and Regent College.

SWCC also will host a Christmas Eve service, “Carols and Candlelight,” at 5 p.m., followed by a dinner prepared by Steve Hochenedel. Everyone is invited to the century-old Deer Lagoon Grange for a traditional time of singing, Scripture reading, good food and merriment.

SWCC offers a wide variety of gifted and educated speakers at Sunday morning worship services. Both the church and all its speakers adhere to the National Association of Evangelicals Statement of Faith.

Each worship service begins at 10 a.m., and is preceded at

9 a.m. by two adult learning forums: one a discussion of the Book of Romans, led by Stan Walker; the other a study of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, led by Jim Craft.

Midweek Bible studies continue in the Gospel of Luke, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, led by Art Angst at the home of Rick and Dinah Zapata.

All SWCC sermons are recorded, and copies on CD-R, or e-mailed in Windows audio attachments, may be obtained by calling 221-8365.

South Whidbey Community Church is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange,

5142 Bayview Road, Langley.

The church is a newly-formed independent, evangelical and non-denominational church. For more information on the church and services, click here.

Unity welcomes guest speaker

Jan Santora is the guest speaker this Sunday at Unity of Whidbey.

Santora is a psychotherapist with offices in Langley. Her talk is “Growing Into Being.” Metaphysically, “being” is defined as, and composed of, wisdom, will and consciousness.

Santora’s talk will explore human growth into an appreciation of this sacred wisdom. This she calls “the will and consciousness triad,” which is what leads us to practical spirituality.

Unity services are held at 10 a.m. at Bayview Community Hall. Music will be provided by Melinda Mack’s group “Good Karma.” All are welcome.

Holidays of Light at UUCWI

The Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island will feature songs and stories about St. Lucia, the Italian saint also celebrated in Sweden.

On one of the shortest days of the year, the church will celebrate the history and traditions of this festive prequel to Christmas.

All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

The service is at 10 a.m. at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland; click here for more information.
