Sermon covers ‘Sacred Space’
In an interactive service on Sunday, Rev. Kit Ketcham will lead members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island in a discussion about the concept of “Sacred Space” and what the new building means to the congregation and to the larger Whidbey Island community. UUCWI now has new opportunities and responsibilities to serve the community as well as to enhance the church’s programs.
The service starts at 10 a.m. All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

UUCWI dedicates new church in Freeland
A ceremony to dedicate the new Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island facility will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland.
There will be dignitaries and representatives from the district Unitarian Universalist community as well as other special guests from the greater Whidbey community. Gini Courter, moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association, will be a special guest and speaker.
Beverly Graham is Unity’s Sunday speaker
Beverly Graham will be the speaker at Unity services at Bayview Community Hall at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Her title is “How Great Thou Art,” which will focus the congregation on the acknowledgement of “The Divine Order.” Using song and story, Graham will guide attention to finding and acknowledging the special “space” to be found within everyone.
Sunday sermon is on ‘Pioneer of our Faith’
Co-Pastor Ron Wedeking will continue his series from Hebrews tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church.
His topic will be, “The Pioneer of our Faith,” based on Hebrews, Chapter 12.
The Sunday worship is 10 a.m. Two adult learning forums begin at 9 a.m.: a study of the Book of Acts, led by Stan Walker, and a study of 1st Samuel, led by Ken Goff. Midweek Bible studies continue on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. with the Gospel of Luke, led by Art Angst at Rick and Dinah Zapata’s home.
Thursday nights at 7 p.m., Walker is leading a study on “The Truth Project,” a DVD series produced by Focus on the Family.

Uganda pastor to visit House of Prayer
Ugandan Pastor Steve Mayanja will be returning on Sunday to South Whidbey, where he has long-standing relationships with individuals and area churches.
Over the years, Mayanja has established 68 churches in Uganda, along with orphanages, schools and a prison outreach. There are currently more than 500 children in the orphan program, and weekly visits are made to 60-some prisons, where blankets, food and medical care are provided. He was also part of a team that built a bush hospital in Wudabi, Sudan, a region without any medical services.
The pastor will be speaking at the service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the House of Prayer, at the intersection of Highway 525 and Pioneer Park Place.
He has just written his second book, copies of which will be available during his stay on the island.
