Local churches announce topics of Sunday services

South End churches have announced the topics for services on Sunday.

Beverly Graham delivers Unity message

The Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday, July 26 will be delivered by Reverend Beverly Graham.

She will be sharing stories and songs about embracing similarities first, so that we may then also embrace our differences.

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at Bayview Community Hall. All are invited.

‘The Meaning of Silence’ at UUCWI

Tijn Touber says, “Being silent means more than just holding your tongue. It means listening for the softest, most subtle sound of all Ñ the sound of the soul.” Listening is worship. At the Sunday service for the Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Sally Ann Elder, a member of UUCWI, will reflect on the meaning of silence and help explore both the collective and personal experience of silence.

The service is at 10 a.m. Childcare will be provided for infants and toddlers. There will be no religious education classes in July or August. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Pastor speaks on contrasting world views

What difference does a world-view make? Find out tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church when co-pastor Darrell Wenzek speaks on “Genesis: A Contrast of World Views.”

Tomorrow morning Stan Walker will be absent, so the adult forum class on the book of Acts will combine with Ken Goff, who is teaching and leading a discussion through the Old Testament book of 1st Samuel, on the life of David. Adult forum classes begin at 9, and morning worship is from 10 to 11 a.m.

South Whidbey Community Church is a local independent, non-denominational church that adheres to the National Association of Evangelicals’ Statement of Faith. It is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road, Langley.

Couple share experiences in Ethiopia

After pastoring at House of Prayer for more than 20 years, the Baldwins joined their adopted son and his family three years ago in Addis Ababa. They’ve spent time there learning the language, volunteering and teaching spoken English in two orphanages, assisting international volunteers and training children’s workers.
