Local PTA looks at advocacy tools on Thursday

The president-elect for the state's school director's association will talk to local parents and educators about using the best advocacy tools to improve schools at the local level on Thursday, Feb. 5.

The president-elect for the state’s school director’s association will talk to local parents and educators about using the best advocacy tools to improve schools at the local level on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Hosted by the South Whidbey Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, Karen Madsen will talk about tactics and strategies to get local school issues and concerns before the state Legislature. Madsen has been involved with the PTA for 20 years, serving as legislative representative at the local and council levels.

Her talk will focus on identifying issues, who are the stakeholders involved and how best to affect real change.

The public meeting is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 in the community room at South Whidbey Intermediate School on Maxwelton Road in Langley.
