An Oak Harbor man is facing a felony charge for allegedly vandalizing a woman’s car by slashing tires, scratching paint and pouring a mystery liquid into the fuel tank on Aug. 19, according to court documents.
The total damage to the car was more than $12,000, an Oak Harbor police officer wrote in his report.
Prosecutors charged the suspect, 57-year-old Keith W. Odem, in Island County Superior Court Oct. 7 with malicious mischief in the second degree. The charge was filed as being domestic-violence related since Odem and the victim previously had a dating relationship.
According to the police report, a resident of Harbor Ridge Apartments reported that she heard the sound of tires deflating and looked outside to see Odem vandalizing her car. She went outside to confront him and he fled in a Chevrolet sedan, the report states. She tried to grab the handle of his car and cut her hand.
The woman told the officer that she sold Odem’s PlayStation that he left at her home in order to buy clothes for her son. She speculated that Odem may have vandalized her car over this, the report states.
The officer noted that security footage shows a man matching Odem’s description pouring a green jug of liquid into the gas tank and puncturing the tires, the report states.
The estimates for new tires, new paint and a gas tank flush came out to be more than $12,000, the officer wrote.
