Man accused of trafficking car parts

A Greenbank man is facing charges for trying to sell stolen car parts on Facebook Marketplace.

A Greenbank man is facing charges for trying to sell stolen car parts on Facebook Marketplace more than two years ago, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Colin M. Taylor in Island County Superior Court Oct. 9 with trafficking in stolen property in the first degree and possession of stolen property in the second degree. If convicted of the charges, he could face up to 14 months in prison under the standard sentencing range.

In March 2021, deputies received a burglary report at a large shop on Mapleglen Road near Langley. The owner reported that someone had stolen tools and removed parts from vehicles in the building.

A carburetor and spark plug wires were taken from a Jeep while an intake manifold and two Edelbrock carburetors were taken from an engine on blocks.

After the theft, a friend of the owner found the stolen parts for sale on Facebook Marketplace. A couple of men texted the person selling the parts and set up a meet, but it was foiled when Mukilteo police were seen in the area, according to a report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

The man alerted the sheriff’s office about the car parts on Facebook Marketplace; he also said the person selling the parts called himself “Ty Jensen” but the “word of mouth on the streets” was that it was actually Taylor.

A deputy looked at the images of the parts for sale and noticed a distinctive tattoo on the wrist of the person holding a carburetor. The tattoo matched one Taylor has, the report states.

After he was contacted by deputies, Taylor said he bought the car parts from a friend who had admitted to committing a burglary, the report states.

Taylor later returned the intake manifold and two carburetors, the deputy wrote.
