A 51-year-old Everett man died last week after jumping from Deception Pass Bridge on North Whidbey.
The Island County Sheriff’s Office reported that bystanders witnessed the man leap from the bridge at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The man was later pulled from the water by fishermen in a boat.
He was transported to the hospital but did not survive.
This time of year, the swirling waters below the famous bridge are busy with boats and the beaches lined with fishermen as the salmon season is in full force.
Several people commit suicide each year by jumping from the bridge, which is in one of the state’s busiest parks.
The Island County Coroner’s Office reported that the family doesn’t want the man to be publicly identified.
His death was ruled a suicide.
