Clinton couple goes on trip as witnesses in fraud trial

“A Clinton couple, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Melling, went on an expense-paid airplane trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, this past week, there to appear as defense witnesses in a mail-fraud trial of three officers of the Great Southwestern Land Company.

… They were the first defense witnesses called and testified that they were ‘satisfied’ with a lot they got from the land company.”

Roy Robinson, resort owner, dies Monday

“Royal C. ‘Roy’ Robinson, well known owner and operator of Robinson’s Resort on Mutiny Bay, died suddenly at his boathouse Monday afternoon, apparently the victim of a heart attack.

Mr. Robinson had been under a doctor’s care for a heart condition for some time and had been warned to take it easy. He told friends, however, that he didn’t want “to die in a rocking chair,” and he worked up until the day of his death. He had operated the resorts since 1949, making friends by the hundreds in the process.”

Couple selected PTA president for first time

“Following the lead of PTAs in other sections of the state, the South Whidbey PTA last Thursday chose a couple to serve as its president for the coming year.

Nominated by committee and elected unanimously at Thursday’s meeting were Mr. and Mrs. John Magnuson of Deer Lake. They’ll work as a unit to head PTA this year, settling between themselves which should preside at the meetings.”

Women Republicans change club rules

“Members of the South Whidbey Republican Club, at their March meeting, voted to adopt an amended set of by-laws.

Included in the amendments was a change of name, and the club will henceforth be known as the South Whidbey Island Federated Republican Womens’ Club.”
