Erl Bangston, developer of The Highlands at Langley, took home another accolade following the Skagit County Builders award for an eco-friendly project.

Langley Mayor Fred McCarthy presented Bangston with a city pin, the 13th awarded, for his work on the major housing project in the city.

“Erl, we’re very proud of you here,” McCarthy said as he gave him the certificate and pin.

McCarthy noted the unlucky number, which Bangston followed by thanking the mayor for not presenting it on Oct. 13.

The Highlands at Langley hopes to have 14 homes built by the end of 2014, he said.

“We’ve enjoyed working with the city, not always, but most of the time,” Bangston joked.

Councilwoman Rene Neff thanked the Highlands’ leaders for staying with the housing project through the recession. The project’s leader noted the struggles of the housing downturn, which stalled construction.

“Somehow, some way, we clawed our way along and survived,” Bangston said.
