Langley Director of Community Planning Jeff Arango got high praise at the city council meeting Monday.

Mayor Fred McCarthy presented him with an award for his work on the redesign of Second Street that was part public works, part “placemaking,” and part downtown revitalization.

“This is one everyone saw, everyone loved,” McCarthy said.

Arango announced that he was invited by an international planning group to a conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was invited to participate in workshops about “placemaking,” a community planning term about designing public spaces to attract people. His travel ticket is being partially paid for by the Langley Main Street Association, and his attendance at the conference is covered by the organizers.
