With the worry that Langley City Hall won’t be big enough to handle the crowd, city officials have decided to move a special council workshop on medical marijuana issues to Fellowship Hall at Langley United Methodist Church.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The workshop follows a request by a Freeland man for the city’s permission to allow a medical marijuana “access point” in Langley.

Lucas Jushinski has been working on a plan to provide medical marijuana to patients who are legally authorized to use the drug, and said his proposed business would be located in a leased building just outside the city’s downtown. Jushinski met with city officials in late January and presented an outline of his proposal.

The upcoming meeting will include talk of possible legislation on medical marijuana. At Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor Larry Kwarsick noted the discussion will not be about the broader topic of marijuana and the law.

“It’s not a discussion about legalizing marijuana. It’s about medical cannabis,” Kwarsick said.

“It’s not a decision-making meeting,” he added.
