A spate of new burglaries have been reported to the Island County Sheriff’s Office in the weeks since Sheriff Mark Brown sent an email alert to South Whidbey residents warning them of a rash of break-ins.

More than two dozen burglaries — most involving thefts of items from garages or car prowls — have been reported since late October. Most of the crimes were reported in Freeland, Useless Bay and Clinton, and occurred in the early morning hours on weekdays.

Last week, home burglaries and a car prowl were reported on Keller Road near Goss Lake. One resident told dispatchers he heard noises around his garage at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 and later discovered items missing.

A resident on Veridian Lane near Useless Bay reported a shop and vehicle that were burglarized overnight on Thursday, Nov. 24.

On Friday, Nov. 25, a caller on Double Bluff Road called 911 shortly after midnight to report a burglary attempt, and at 3:22 a.m., a Mutiny Bay Road resident reported a vehicle prowl.

A few hours later, another Mutiny Bay Road resident called police to say he noticed his neighbor’s garage door was open, but his neighbor was out of town.

On the same day, a woman on Lancaster Road called about a prowler around her residence on the night of Monday, Nov. 21.

Also Friday, a woman called Island County authorities from out of state to say that a friend was at her Holmes Harbor-area home on Good Piper Lane and told her that someone had broken into her house.

Items were also reported stolen in a car prowl on Goss Lake Road just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.
