After a year of struggle, Enso House in Freeland is back at full strength and once again offering a full range of services, the organization announced.

Enso House has grappled with reduced staff since 2015, but hired Jill Buchholz, a registered nurse, this summer. Her addition allowed the nonprofit to fully resume its mission to “provide physical, emotional and spiritual support” for those nearing end-of-life and their loved ones, according to Director Ann Cutcher.

“It’s a major moment,” Cutcher said.

Buchholz spent more than 15 years as a hospice aide before going to nursing school where she earned a master’s from San Francisco State University. Following her educational studies, she embarked on a three-month meditation retreat and happened upon board member David Trowbridge’s book about Enso House.

“Jill visited the website, saw our standing advertisement for professional help and was compelled to see Enso and us in person,” Cutcher said. “Jill put her belongings in her car, said ‘goodbye’ to her life in California and arrived for a six-to-12-month trial. It feels like a very good fit. Jill is flexible, comfortable with uncertainty, happy in this very quiet, rural place and excited to learn how Enso functions.”

Enso House is again open to referrals. Visit www.ensohouse.org to learn more about the organization.
