WCT postpones cabaret night
Whidbey Children’s Theater nightclub event with Robert Marsanyi and friends which was scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5 has been postponed to an as yet unscheduled later date.
Choochokam volunteers needed
Choochokam Arts is looking for volunteers for the 33rd annual Langley festival of the arts.
Choochokam needs people of all ages for two- to four-hour shifts the weekend of July 12 and 13.
Volunteers are needed to assist with the music stages, kids activities, the information booth, and help the arts-and-crafts exhibitors.

Booths for artists are also still available. Choochokam Arts organizers have reserved a number of festival booth spaces for local artists. Local booth spaces can also be shared.
Parks to celebrate National Trails Day
The South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District will host its second annual National Trails Day on Saturday.
To celebrate the acquisition of Trustland Trails, the district will host Craig Holmquist and Alex Stone of the National Park Service. The pair will teach enthusiasts how to locate the best trail topography by using special instruments and techniques that are used in new trail development.
The local National Trails Day event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at the House of Prayer. The church is adjacent to Highway 525 between Crawford and Craw roads.
The focus of the day’s training will be the accessible loop trail from the proposed trailhead parking area off Craw Road.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat and bring water to drink.
The House of Prayer congregation will provide light refreshments and parking. The parks district will give away commemorative T-shirts, hats, water bottles, granola bars and tea packets to those registered.

Former mayor to be celebrated
The Langley Community Club will celebrate former Mayor Neil Colburn at a special dinner next week.
The group will host a “Neil Colburn Celebration” at Neil’s Clover Patch in Bayview on Monday, June 9. The club invites the community to a no-host dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. Colburn is expected to arrive about 6 p.m.

LMS orientation is next week
Parents of incoming sixth-grade students at Langley Middle School are invited to attend a parent orientation meeting to meet teachers, review the program and ask questions.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at the middle school’s multi-purpose room.

Island Transit gives away surplus bus
Island Transit has given a 21-passenger bus to the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District and South Whidbey Youth Connection. The surplus bus will be shared between the two organizations.
The parks district was also awarded an eight-passenger van for day camp and recreational programs.
Earlier this year, the agencies had co-authored a grant application to Island Transit’s surplus vehicle program.
