Nichols Brothers Boat Builders in Freeland has applied for a permit to repair its existing launch ramp on E. Shoreview Drive.

According to company spokeswoman Marilyn Simmons, the project is preventive in nature. The ramp has become depressed in areas and the edges have begun to slough off, requiring additional work.

The shipyard has submitted a permit application to Island County Planning and Community Development. Planner Brad Johnson said the project has been reviewed and he expects to issue a permit soon.

He said the project would see the placement of about 75 cubic yards of quarry rock in depressed areas. Simmons said she expects the work will begin this summer.
