Dick and Janice Dahlman Stallbaum met in early 1946 at Cozy’s in Clinton. They were married at the Methodist Church in Langley, and are blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He re-entered the University of Washington and graduated in 1949. Most of their work life was in Seattle, he in real estate and she in banking. Upon retiring in 1977, they moved back to the island and have resided on the beach at Mutiny Bay ever since, enjoying the wonders of the Northwest.

They are avid golfers, anglers and boaters. They were chosen as the Northwest Boating Family of the Year for 1965 by Northwest Marine Industries. On one of many trips to the Canadian islands they tied up to a log boom at Howe Sound within Smith Inlet when John Wayne and his boat, The Wild Goose, tied up next to them. Janice still has the bottle of wine (empty) he gave them in exchange for a bucket of fish guts used for prawn bait. Their youngest daughter had the run of Wayne’s boat and said “Dad, it’s 100 feet longer than ours.”
