James V. Thompson

James V. Thompson, 77, died peacefully at Highland Convalescent Care in Bellingham on Sunday morning Feb. 17, 2002.

He was born on Whidbey Island June 30, 1924, to Oscar and Nellie Thompson. In May of 1948 he married Patricia M. McGhan. They were married for 49 years. Pat passed away in February 1998.

Jim had many interests throughout his lifetime. These included hunting; sports of all types, playing and watching; and traveling. But most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and family members.

Jim served in the Army during World War II, traveling to many countries. He worked for the Island County Road Department until he retired in 1990. He was a member of VFW Post 482, American Legion Post 141 and Masonic Temple 218.

In 1999 Jim moved to Bellingham to be near his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren and in order to be able to spend numerous weekends traveling through the states and Canada for baseball games.

Jim is survived by three sons, Larry Thompson and wife Marianne of Mill Creek; Randy Thompson of Bayview; and Mike and wife Mindy Thompson of Clinton; a daughter, Patti, and husband Ray Wilson, of Bellingham; a sister, Lucille Norse and husband Pat of Clinton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his wife, his youngest child, Jimmie Allen, preceded him in death in 1996.

We will miss Dad dearly.

A special thank you to all at Highland Convalescent Home Care and Parkway Chateau for all the support, care, comfort and love they gave Jim.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, with Rev. Peter Mohr officiating.

Arrangements are by Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
