Investigators from the Coupeville Marshall’s Office and the Island County Sheriff’s office are searching for a man they believe was involved in two recently burglaries and a kidnapping.

According to Sheriff Mike Hawley, an elderly resident of the Terry Mobile Home Park in Coupeville was awakened July 12 by an intruder who jumped on his bed and held a knife to his chest. The 70-year-old man was forced into a car and driven around for about 10 minutes before returning to the house. The resident escaped and ran to a neighbor’s home.

The suspect stole credit cards, a wallet, vest and kitchen knife.

At about 3 a.m. July 12, a resident of Henry Loop outside of Coupeville discovered an intruder who said he had car trouble and let himself in. No weapon was displayed, and the intruder left when the resident called 911.

The man is described as a white male, 28-30 years old, with droopy eyes and dark hair. He is slender and between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. Deputies have been searching the woods around Coupeville for the suspect, who they believe may be a transient living outdoors. Area residents are being encouraged to take extra security precautions.
