The Island County Sheriff’s Office is warning people and businesses on the South End to be on the look for funny money.

Sgt. Laura Price said police received at least two reports this week of counterfeit money being used at South End businesses. Brown pens designed to detect phony bills confirmed they were fake, she said.

So far, the counterfeit currency received has been $20, $50 and $100 bills.

Fake money used at businesses should be confiscated and the police notified, Price said. Also, merchants should try to get a name and description of the person who used them. To make a report, call the sheriff’s office via 9-1-1.
