Popular storyteller regales at library finale

“A special concert on Aug. 29 at the Freeland and Langley libraries will celebrate the joy of summer reading and congratulate the children who have finished the Sno-Isle Library’s summer reading program. All kids are welcome at the concert, whether they have participated in the summer reading program or not.Courtney Campbell, storyteller, singer and songwriter, will present the program at 1 p.m. at the Freeland Library and 3 p.m. at Langley Library. Using humor and creativity in her music, Campbell quickly builds rapport with audiences of all ages, singing many songs that are based on true stories from her life. Her concerts are both fun and inspirational to budding storytellers.Bettie Bell, longtime Freeland librarian and one of the driving forces in the building of the Freeland Library, and Karen Jeffers, South Whidbey Primary School librarian, will be at the Freeland program to congratulate the kids who have continued to read through the summer and reached their goals. Langley mayor Lloyd Furman will meet the kids and recognize their achievements at Langley Library. There will also be two drawings: The first for two plush elephants, one at each library, and the second for eight passes courtesy of the Clyde Theatre. While they have until the end of August to finish the summer reading program, children who have signed up but have not yet finished are encouraged to do so before next Tuesday’s program so that they are eligible to win the movie tickets. “
