The Port of South Whidbey has contracted with a planning firm, Beckwith Consulting Group in La Conner, to evaluate Clinton’s market potential. To do so, the opinions and shopping patterns of South Whidbey residents are needed to identify what works, what fails and what could thrive. According to a news release from the port, Clinton is an economically deteriorating commercial area, with expansive water and mountain views and close access to a major traffic hub in the ferry and highway that could make it a socially and economically vibrant center. The Clinton-to-Mukilteo ferry accommodates about 3.8 million riders per year.

The focus groups go from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Clinton business owners are invited to come by from 7:30 to 9 a.m., Clinton property owners from noon to 1:30 p.m., public agency representatives from 2 to 3 p.m., the Clinton Community Council from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and all-comers from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

There are three different online surveys available for different groups. One is designed for property owners at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ClintonPropertyOwner, another for business owners at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ClintonBusinessOwner, and the third at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ClintonSouthWhidbeyResident.

Those who sign up and complete the online survey are entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card.
