Rotary of South Whidbey holds wine fundraiser

The fundraiser runs through Dec. 20.

Wine aficionados have the chance to purchase some bottles of the stuff for a good cause.

The Rotary Club of South Whidbey will be hosting a wine sale through Dec. 20. People can choose from a selection of wines and place orders on the website, rotarywine.givesmart.com.

Instead of entering credit card information, email to rotaryitems@gmail.com and make out checks to Rotary Club of South Whidbey Island Foundation and mail to P.O. Box 444, Freeland, WA 98249. Buyers will be contacted about where to pick up their wines, which will likely be at a location in Freeland, said Marie Plakos, a member of the Rotary Club. Delivery will not be an option.

“Top quality” wines have been selected for the sale, Plakos said.

Prices range, but most bottles come in sets of three or four. Sponsors who give $500 will get a “coveted” wooden box with six premium wines from California.

The wine comes from Duckhorn Vineyards and Abeja Winery.

There is also an option on the website to make a donation to the club, separate from the wine sale.

So far, the club has raised about $5,500 through sales and donations. The goal is to reach $20,000.

Plakos said that 100 percent of proceeds goes back into the community. This year, the club has been active in giving donations to Good Cheer Food Bank, the Whidbey Homeless Coalition and WhidbeyHealth for PPE, personal protective equipment.

The club has also focused on giving money to student scholarships. A full list of projects and charitable organizations the club supports can be found on rotarywine.givesmart.com.
