Members of the Whidbey Westside Rotary Club were busy as elves over the past few weeks gathering greens and making wreaths for the opening of the organization’s tree stand in Bayview.

The lot was scheduled to open Friday, after press time, and include a variety of holiday trees, including: noble fir, natural noble, fir and blue spruce. A range of wreath types and sizes were also expected to be for sale.

The lot is open daily, from 1 to 7 p.m. outside Sebo’s Do-it Center off Highway 525.

According to a news release, the club joined with Main Street Christmas Trees, that has had a stand in Freeland for the past few years and is providing some expertise to the project. The Rotary Club was the beneficiary of a donation of wreath-making supplies and training from Don McDonald, who is retiring after years of making wreaths for many Whidbey stores and florists.

Other support came from the use of a building for creating the wreaths, a pod for storage at the tree lot as well as greenery such as holly, cedar, fir and other green goods, the release said.

Proceeds from the sales of trees and wreaths will help support Rotary service projects. Past projects have included work at Enso House, South Whidbey Children’s Center, South Whidbey Elementary School, Greenbank Farm, Senior Services and more. The group has also participated in international projects, the release said.

The stand is open while supplies last. Special orders for specific colors or for larger trees and wreaths are welcome.
