Salmon season to start next week

After Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced the delay of Admiralty Inlet’s salmon season in January, South Whidbey anglers can finally set their eyes on opening day.

WDFW announced on Wednesday that salmon season in Marine Area 9, which covers Admiralty Inlet west and south of Whidbey Island, will open Thursday, Feb. 16. The original opening date was slated for Jan. 16, but was pushed back in order to prevent early closure of the season, according to a press release.

The season is slated to close on April 15.

The daily limit for hatchery chinook salmon in Marine Area 9 will be one chinook, with a limit of two salmon total. All wild coho and chinook salmon must be released.
