Seattle girl wins Maxwelton parade contest

Jadyn Smith is the winner of the Maxwelton 4th of July parade button design contest for 2014.

Jadyn Smith is the winner of the Maxwelton 4th of July parade button design contest for 2014.

The contest is held annually to design the event’s souvenir button. They are sold for $1 and go toward the parade’s expenses.

Jadyn is 10 years old and is in the fourth grade at Meridian Park Elementary in North Seattle. Her favorite subjects are math and reading, and her favorite sport is soccer, which she plays for both recreation and select teams.

Jadyn enjoys being at Maxwelton Beach, has been in the parade for several years and she helps sell buttons at the booth.

Jadyn’s button, the design of which is revealed at the parade, was selected from a pool of about 35 other submissions.

The committee, led by chairwoman B.J. Hoogerwerf, thanked everyone who competed.
