Seniors lead girl golfers over Blaine

South Whidbey's girls turned in several solid performances at a golf match Tuesday at Useless Bay.

“South Whidbey’s girls turned in several solid performances at a golf match Tuesday at Useless Bay.The opponent, Blaine, was one short of the five golfers needed for a team, so the Falcons won by default.Coach Tom Sage was pleased with some of the play, however. Our top two golfers played real well, he said. Senior Danielle Dumke was medalist with a 101, while fellow senior Amy Brunner shot a solid 103, just behind Blaine’s top player who scored 102.Freshman Adrienne Hawley shot a 115 at Useless Bay and a few day prior scored 115 at Lake Padden. She’s shown continued improvement, Sage said.Next Thursday the Falcon girls will host the North Cascades Conference league tournament at Useless Bay. Sage said the Falcons don’t have the depth to compete for a top spot, but if they play well they should finish in the middle of the pack. Sending teams to the island will be Mount Baker, Blaine, Lakewood and Nooksack Valley. In JV action, the South Whidbey girls finished first among seven teams at a tournament they hosted Thursday at Island Greens. Team scores were the combined scores of each team’s top three players over the par 3 nine hole course. The Falcons won the gold with 125 total strokes. Emily Willson, 3rd individually overall, scored 40; Aimee Dumke, 5th individually, scored 41; and Jessica Hixson rounded out the team score with a 44.Burlington/Edison was second with 129 and Kamiak third at 130. Coach Sage said the tournament was fun for everyone despite some late rain, and it hopefully will become an annual event at Island Greens.”
