A small fire that occurred in a Langley home Monday night is still under investigation, a South Whidbey Fire/EMS official says.

Approximately 15 firefighters responded to reports of light smoke coming from a house on Mardell Drive. Firefighters entered the home and found a “very small” fire in the kitchen, Assistant Chief Jason Laughren said. The crew extinguished the fire quickly. Nobody was in the home at the time of the fire, Laughren said.

A dishwasher and kitchen cabinets sustained minor damage, while there was also smoke damage throughout the house. The fire also ruptured a water line, which helped keep the fire in check, Laughren said.
