Christian Science to examine atonement

‘Serious About God’ at SWCC on Sunday
Tomorrow morning Pastor Darrell Wenzek will preach on the subject: “Serious About God,” at South Whidbey Community Church.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the lives of the patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

Rev. Becker to speak at Unity on Sunday
Rev. Patty Becker will give the talk “Prayer – The Great Keystone” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.
Rev. Becker returns with the ongoing exploration of Unity Principle. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God and mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good.
Unity regards prayer as the primary activity of spiritual life. It is a practice that opens the heart, conditions the mind and supports the soul in its desire to experience its full expression. Becker will offer a dynamite opportunity to learn a simple, yet powerful technique for effective prayer.
Barbara Dunn will provide the music and Sam Glass with be the platform assistant.

The impact of kids’ religious education
Some of the religious disagreements around the world are the result of inadequate religious education and misunderstanding of the basic tenets of religious faiths. At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will consider the importance of children’s religious education.
All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

Songs of praise to sound at St. Hubert
Tammie Stevens returns to St. Hubert Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as guest speaker and song leader with her spontaneous enthusiasm for praising God that helps everyone lift their voices in praise.
The evening begins with songs of praise, followed by teaching in how to grow in praise through personal prayer and throughout the day. The program is sponsored by the St. Hubert Prayer Group. For more information, call Bell Moore at 730-1689.

St. Hubert Catholic Church is offering “The Rite of Christian Initiation,” a program that provides an understanding of the Catholic faith and Christian living.
