South Whidbey boxing champ, gym owner swings for a ring

Dakota Stone, a professional boxer and owner of Solid Stone Boxing Gym in Clinton, is reaching out for a little help instead of reaching for a right cross. The boxer-turned-gym owner runs her boxing center at Ken’s Korner and has used tape to mark the dimensions of a boxing ring since opening a couple of years ago. Now, she’s ready to see if people support her dream of operating the gym with an eye toward teaching girls and women the sport of pugilism.

To buy and install a ring, Stone needs $25,000 and is raising pledges online through an online crowd funding website, indiegogo.com. To date, $14,250 (57 percent) has been pledged. Different pledge amounts, from $10 to the full $25,000, come with different perks and gifts. To see the full list, visit www.indiegogo.com/projects/solid-stone-boxing-a-ring-of-our-own.

Money pledged will only be drawn from an account if the total amount is reached, so if funding falls short of $25,000, donors will not be charged.
