Methodists honor families on Sundays
Langley United Methodist Church will celebrate Family Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13. These quarterly Sundays are designed to be welcoming to children, and all but the youngest will remain in worship rather than go to Sunday school.
This first Family Sunday will be a “Celebration of the Christian Year.” It will start with Advent and move through the year, hearing scripture, singing and learning about the various seasons. The children and youths will do most of the readings.
“The rhythms of the year are important,” said Pastor Mary Boyd. “They remind us of our story and provide times for celebration and times for contemplation.”
The Nov. 13 service will also recognize our veterans and collect their stories of service.

Praying over bread and wine in Freeland
“Prayers Over Bread and Wine” will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church.
All are welcome to participate in this Advent program. Evenings will begin with a light supper of soup, salad and bread followed by teaching and discussion led by
Rev. William Seth Adams as he helps participants look at the church’s practice of praying over bread and wine from very early times.
Sunday’s prayers will also be considered, with the aim to deepen and enrich one’s engagement in these prayers.
The church is located at 5217 S. Honeymoon Bay Road.
‘Saved From What?’ is lesson at UUCWI
At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island,
Rev. Barbara ten Hove, co-minister at Cedars UU, Bainbridge, will explore the liberal Unitarian Universalist idea of salvation. Can we re-imagine salvation as “the gift of full aliveness”?
All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

‘Mortals and Immortals’ Sunday

On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Christian Science service explores how and why you can claim your immortal and spiritual being today as taught by Jesus Christ.
In this discussion of “Mortals and Immortals,” readings from the Bible and “Science and Health” illustrate the meaning behind II Timothy I: 7. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
This healing service begins at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. Everyone is welcome.
Pastor continues John series at SWCC
Pastor Darrell Wenzek continues in his series in the First Letter of John at South Whidbey Community Church on Sunday. The sermon is “The True Jesus,” based on 1 John 1:1-4.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the lives of the patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.
