South Whidbey churches list Sunday services

Unity message is ‘Love Clears the Way’

Rev. Patty Becker will give the talk “Love Clears the Way” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.

Love is both a powerful emotion and a transformative force. As a spiritual faculty, we can use love to overcome the most challenging obstacles in our lives, but we need to be clear on what it is. Far more than a romantic feeling, love is a commitment to do no harm to ourselves or others. It is an attitude that allows us to see through eyes of compassion. And, it is an invitation to explore personal growth.

Rev. Becker will be accompanied by the musical talents of Tadd CharetteNunn.

Unity meets at 10 a.m. Sunday at 5671 Crawford Road, Langley.

Christian Science looks at atonement

On Sunday, April 18, the Christian Science service focuses on the “Doctrine of Atonement.”

A loving parent does not condemn a child to suffer forever from something someone else did. God created all her children as perfect, and perfection has no room for sin or suffering.

“We acknowledge Jesus’ atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man’s unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower.” (“Science and Health”). As you daily express you natural goodness in action and speech, you have “kept the faith.” “This is having our part in the at-one-ment with Truth and Love.”

Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road). Everyone is welcome.

‘The Practice of Judging’ at SWCC

Pastor Ron Wedeking will give the sermon Sunday at South Whidbey Community Church, and the topic is “The Practice of Judging,” based on Matthew 7:1-5, as the church continues through the Beatitudes in the early part of the Gospel of Matthew.

SWCC provides a smaller church experience in a historical setting, yet with traditional worship and hymns in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

Morning worship begins at 10 and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading an inductive study into Paul’s Letter to the Philippians and Art Angst leading a study into the Gospel of Luke. These are open classes where everyone is invited.

All SWCC sermons and special adult-forum lectures are recorded, and copies on CD-R or e-mailed as Windows audio attachments, may be obtained by calling the church at 221-1220.

SWCC is a local independent, non-denominational church that adheres to the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith. It is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

For further information about the church and services, call 221-1220.
