South Whidbey churches list Sunday services

Sermon takes a lesson from Smyrna

Pastor Darrell Wenzek continues the series Sunday morning at South Whidbey Community Church on early churches of the New Testament, with the sermon, “Smyrna: the Cost of Discipleship,” based on Revelation 2:8-11.

Morning worship begins at 10 and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading an inductive study into Paul’s Letter to the Church at Ephesus and Art Angst leading a study into the Gospel of Luke. These are open classes to which everyone is invited.

South Whidbey Community Church provides a unique church experience in a historical setting, with traditional worship and hymns in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

All SWCC sermons and special adult-forum lectures are recorded, and copies on CD-R or e-mailed as Windows audio attachments may be obtained by calling the church at 221-1220.

SWCC is a local independent, non-denominational church that adheres to the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith. It is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

For further information about the church and services, call 221-1220.

Jim Freeman gives talk at Unity

Unity of Whidbey will offer a worship service for all ages at Sunday’s service.

Reacquaint yourself with the feel of zeal at this Sunday’s Unity of Whidbey celebration of life. Joining Freeman will be musician and violinist Talia Toni Marcus and platform assistant Joy Williams.

Visit Unity of Whidbey’s website at www.unityofwhidbeyisland.org for more information.

Heroism and integrity are topics at UUCWI

All are welcome, and Sunday’s service at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island begins at 10 a.m. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

UUCWI is at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. Go to www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more info.

Service reviews teachings of Christ

On Sunday, Oct. 24, the Christian Science service reviews the teachings of Christ Jesus about death and why he treated death as something to deny and overcome, as he did illness. “We all must learn that Life is God. Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of truth and love? If so, then the way will grow brighter “unto the perfect day,” (“Science and Health”).

“Death is not a stepping-stone to life, immortality and bliss,” (“Science and Health”).

Everyone is welcome. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road.

‘Faith Based Advocacy’ explained

Rev. Paul Benz will lead an ecumenical inter-generational workshop Sunday in Langley.

Are your faith beliefs calling you to address the brokenness in the world?

Have you ever felt strongly about an issue but were not sure how to contact your elected officials to communicate your wishes?

Have you wondered if it is better to make a phone call or send an e-mail, or a letter through the mail?

Benz, of the Lutheran Public Policy Office in Olympia, will lead “Faith Based Advocacy: Building a Tool Kit for Action, Compassion and Justice Care for Creation.”

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 in Fellowship Hall at Langley United Methodist Church.

Registration is free; donations will be accepted for lunch.
