Congregation has Flower Communion

Rev. Kit Ketcham will celebrate the Flower Communion and tell about its creator, Rev. Norbert Capek, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island service on Sunday.

Bring a flower or two to share during the ceremony. There will also be a Child Dedication. This will be an intergenerational service, so children are invited to stay in the sanctuary for the service. There will be child care for the littlest ones. All are welcome.

The service is at 10 a.m. Sunday at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Learn about what Mormons believe

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is inviting members of the community interested in learning the basic doctrines and history of the Mormon faith to attend a special service addressing these topics.

The service is 10 a.m. Sunday, May 23 at 5425 Maxwelton Road. Time for questions and a discussion will follow the service.

Sermon is ‘Religious, but Not Christian’

Is there a difference between being called a “spiritual person,” a “religious person” or a “Christian”? Does it matter? Pastor Darrell Wenzek will speak on the topic, “Religious, but Not Christian,” based on Matthew 7:15-23, Sunday morning at South Whidbey Community Church.

Morning worship begins at 10 and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading an inductive study into Paul’s Letter to the Philippians and Art Angst leading a study into the Gospel of Luke. These are open classes where everyone is invited.

All SWCC sermons and special adult-forum lectures are recorded, and copies on CD-R or e-mailed as Windows audio attachments may be obtained by calling the church at 221-1220.

SWCC is a local independent, non-denominational church that adheres to the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith and provides a smaller church experience in a historical setting, with traditional worship and hymns in a friendly, informal atmosphere. It is open to everyone, and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road, Langley.

For further information about the church and services, call 221-1220.

Pastor Schrotel is Unity’s guest speaker

Pastor Jim “PJ” Schrotel will be the featured speaker at Unity of Whidbey on Sunday.

Schrotel is a self-described positive and practical Christian idealist, midnight mystic, agnostic, a Socratic inquirer and intuitive. His prior life included being an Air Force Interceptor instructor and later, president of two divisions of the largest apparel conglomerate in the world, before he became a Unity Senior Pastor and popular West Coast speaker. He is a published author of inspirational books and poetry.

He has described Unity of Whidbey as “The Little Church That Could” after hearing of its 30-year trek as a “homeless” church to become a Whidbey Island center for the Northwest’s New Thought movement.

As his sermons demonstrate, “PJ” believes the most exciting adventure in life is to “awaken to God” and to do God’s will in one’s life. His insights and ideas have been taught at Unity Institute, Asilomar, regional and national Association of License Unity Teacher trainings, and on the high seas.

His message this Sunday, “Toe Inn The Water Buffet,” is but one of his playful ways to engage spiritual minds.

Unity meets at 10 a.m. Sunday at 5671 Crawford Road, Langley. All are welcome.

Service explores the ‘Soul and Body’

Through correlated readings of the Bible and “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” the Christian Science service on Sunday, May 23 explores the topic, “Soul and Body.”

The Golden Text that will provide the theme for this exploration comes from II Corinthians 3: 18: “ … We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Come join this spiritual and healing journey that moves “from glory to glory.” Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 5910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road).
