South Whidbey churches list weekend events

Plenty of activities from which to choose.

Sunday lesson is ‘Heaven is Here’

Unity of Whidbey will celebrate spring, resurrection and new beginnings at its next Sunday service.

Rev. Joanna Gabriel will give the talk, “Heaven is Here.” More than a beautiful and inspiring story, the Resurrection comes alive within our own experience, if we allow it. Heaven becomes real within our own experience when we allow it. Blessings abound all around us and become real within our own experience when we allow them.

Gabriel leads the special Easter celebration, with musicians Heidi Hoelting, Talia Toni Marcus, Tadd CharetteNunn and more, for music, dance and Easter blessings. The service is at 10 a.m. Karen McInerney will serve as platform assistant.

A Course in Miracles group meets 3:30 to 5 p.m. All are welcome.

Visit Unity of Whidbey’s website at http://www.unityofwhidbeyisland.org for more information.

A Universalist’s perspective on Easter

Universalism is the doctrine of universal salvation — the belief that a loving God will grant salvation to all. This Easter, Rev. Kit Ketcham will celebrate the idea of Universal Love and its healing message for humankind. All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island gathers at 10 a.m. at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Christian Science seeks enlightenment

What does “Probation After Death” mean to you?

“Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal,” (“Science and Health”).

Jesus Christ not only raised the dead, he also instructed his disciples to go and do the same. Why did Jesus make a point of overcoming death if it were a God-ordained process? We are assured that Jesus was providing the way out of death as a requirement of life: “And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak … And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent,” (John 12: 46; 17: 3).

This enlightening service at the Christian Science Church is 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. Everyone is welcome.

Pastor Wedeking gives Easter sermon

Easter Sunday at South Whidbey Community Church, Pastor Ron Wedeking will talk about “Easter – God’s Transformation of Us,” based on Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth, Chapter 15.

Immediately following worship, there will be a church potluck at the grange, and everyone is invited.

Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult- learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of Abraham. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

All SWCC sermons and special adult forum events are recorded, and are available at www.whidbeychurch.org. Home Bible studies are also offered; check the church website for times and locations.

SWCC is a local independent, non-denominational church that welcomes everyone and gathers for worship at the historic Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road. For further information about the church and services, call 221-1220.
